Reed Vise

Hey guys. Just wanted some advice on this Reed vise and if it’s worth the price and effort to restore. The owner says it’s 1950’s vintage, 6” jaws. I can’t see it in person until about the middle of this week. Thanks as always

In my opinion, that vise is not worth restoring at any price. The anvil looks abused, but more importantly, the photos appear to show significant welding/brazing.

I thought it looked like it had been used heavily but I see the abuse you mentioned. Thanks for the further insight. The search for a big vise continues.

The static jaw has been pounded on and is cracked. Pass

I have an old 104-1/2 in pieces, need a new nut and a screw to bring it back to life.
The body is in a lot better shape than that one.

It's hard to not buy the big vises, but in this case you are just asking for headaches if you care about how it looks.

But if you can get it for a good price, buy it, knock all the ugly off that you can, and make it a user. I'm sure there is still a lot of life left, but it will never give the GJ vise group tight pants.

They asking $10 or a $100? If it’s been repaired its a vice to put outside on a stump for outdoor work
