I have an old Erie,Pa. Reed vise with an 8” jaw and about 24” long with about a 2.5” bite, widest one I’ve seen, weighs about 100 lbs. - is this thing rare?any real value? I’ve been looking around at all these vises but can’t seem to find and with a 2.5” bite?clamp?correct term?

Welcome to the Forum from Southwestern California.
Regretfully I have no knowledge of Reed Vises as collectables, I am sure others, who are, more qualified will be happy to share their opinions.

I doubt it has 8-inch WIDE jaws as the vise would weigh over 300 lbs. I think you are measuring how far they OPEN which is not how vises are spec'd. When you say "bite" do you mean height of the jaw surface? Maybe you have a Coach style vise like pic below. There should be a number cast on the side and that would tell everything we need to know.
