I have a 2 story garage that was sided the same as my house 8 years ago. The gable end was sided with cedar look shake vinyl.
We had a 60mph wind storm and I now hear a slapping noise in the garage upstairs storage rooms. Looking from the ground I noticed that the siding has slipped out of the J channel and 5 rows are loose
Here’s the problem the siding is very stiff and cannot be peeled back like standard vinyl siding. The bigger problem is this is about 28-30 feet above the ground
Who and how can this be repaired before the wind rips it off the garage. (No chance to call the cheap sob who did a **** job)

I would find a siding guy who can take it all down and nail back up properly. Should be easy and not cost that much to do. I have that siding on my entire house. I like it. I’ve had it for 14 years. If it’s nailed properly, it never comes loose. Certanteed Cedar impressions.

This. It’s very durable stuff when installed correctly but a ***** to repair without removing it.

I agree. It doesn’t crack from branches, hail, etc. I tested it out before I had it installed. You can hit it with a baseball on a freezing day and it doesn’t crack - my son tested that one out plenty of times.

If there were other homes damaged close by from this wind, it might be an insurance situation for you. It's hard to say what happened and even with pictures it'll require close inspection, but I'm thinking that everything on both sides of the window to the peak will need to come off and re installed. These shakes have zero forgiveness for being only partially "locked in " to the neighboring panel and 5 courses loose is very strange especially to be appearing after 8 years.

I believe that improper installation and nailing was a factor. Also this was winter about 25 degrees with high winds caused the vinyl siding to shrink causing it to no longer be under the J channel. The wind did the rest. I’m in northern New Jersey and finding a siding company to do a repair is almost impossible. Full house and windows they will be here in an hour.

"5 rows are loose"

How the hell, must of been one lazy *** installer. As suggested take down the siding, I used 18-8 stainless screws and washers on my house install from bolt depot, it ain't never coming off , J channel or not, wind or no wind, unless I take it off.

One end of my house has the majority of the siding off the nails. I discovered it when reattaching a piece that came loose. Everything is locked together, but almost all of it has popped off the nails. I can grab it and pull on it and see a big section wave in the side of the house when I shake it.
