Refinishing clearcoat

I have a great epoxy floor that was installed 15 years ago. The clearcoat needs to be refinished, but the base coat and flakes are fine. Is it possible to lightly sand the clear coat and reapply? Thanks.

Yes, use 120 grit sandpaper. An even quicker way is to sand the main part of the floor using a floor maintainer with a 100 grit sanding screen, then hit the edges and corners with a pole sander. Sweep/vac and then wipe down the floor with denatured alcohol applied liberally to a microfiber mop pad.

Thank you very much. How toxic are the clearcoat fumes? I have just recovered from a serious illness and don't want to take any chances.

It depends on what you plan to use. Water-based and 100% solids coatings have low to no VOC's. Solvent-based coatings do.

Excellent advice. We also have recommended using a floor buffer and 3M type pad to micro scratch the floor for recoating. Wipe down with denatured alcohol after and good to go to recoat.

We have a great one part Red Label Urethane topcoat which works great on recoats and is very easy to apply.
