Refinishing Husky Garage Cabinets

Hi y'all,

I have a few Husky garage cabinets that I'd like to refinish in a different color. These were originally powdercoated, and I'd like to know how durable/scratch resistant they can be if I used roll on paint with a few layers of clear coat applied? I prefer not to spray paint because of the fumes. Unfortunately powdercoating is not an option for me.

Thanks for your help!

In my opinion the paint will just lay on top. Would need to scotch Brite powder coat to get some adhesion. Would need to prime it then paint.

Now there may be some paint that you can roll on that will mechanically bond to powder coat but I don’t know what.

I have been refinishing several metal cabinets. I used a 3M magic wheel to remove stickers, sanded to remove rust and other materials, then cleaned and painted with Eastwood rust encapsulation on some bad shelves. I used a DTM primer and a clear. I did not top coat because I was trying to save money.

I am not a painter, but The rust encapsulation seems to be a hard surface that bonds well but is not going to give any color choices
