At work we have an a/c sniffer (sorry, don't know the brand) anyways, it's just about worthless for finding a/c leaks. it has 2 settings, low and high (sensitivity). When it is on high, it will give a false positive anytime! I can have it outside, away from any car or refrigerant, and it will start beeping like it found the mother lode!
When on low, it will still give a false positive, but really only catches an a/c leak if it's pretty severe, and by then I can see/hear it as well.
this is my only experience with these testers, is this just normal for sensitive testers, is it junk? I've heard that the tips wear out and need replaced, Is this a symptom of that?
I'm fed up with it and with the busy a/c season coming up (its here) it'd be nice to have some working tools for finding common a/c leaks. The uv dye isn't always foolproof. there are places in an engine compartment that you can't shine any light on, etc.
