my bar fridge has stopped cooling over the past few months.
i checked the thermocouples and fans they're running ok, coils are clean
the compressor runs
i drained the freon, confirmed it will hold a vacuum then replaced it
still nothing.

any suggestions on what i'm missing?

Drained the freon? its illegal to release refrigerants out to the atmosphere.

Its been said many times here, holding a vacuum is not a good way for testing for leaks. To test for leaks you should refill will nitrogen and have a pressure guage on it.

But thats probably not your refridges problem, probably the compressor is shot. Might need to buy a new one.

Agreed. Just because the compressor runs, doesn't mean it's compressing the refrigerant.

If it's a small bar/college fridge, just get a new one. Not worth fixing. Unless you want a project lol

I had one go bad just recently, got restricted somehow downstream of the evaporator. This was the big fridge in the house. It's pretty easy to find these restrictions in the wrong place, because the refrig circuit will get cold just downstream.

When mine quits I know that the auto defrost has stopped again and the cooling coils are iced over. If you can see them take a look, if not then unplug the fridge and open the door for 24 hours and let it defrost.

Must be old to be using Freon?
Freon is a brand name, not a refrigerant.

Upjeeper, no insult intended, but if you can't confirm an inefficient compressor and can't find leaks, you need a new refrigerator. Even if you do confirm a bad compressor, a new one will cost more than a whole new refrigerator.

Freon is the brand name for R-12 & R-22, no? I've not heard of Freon being used in many years.

I used to have an automotive refrigerant certification, but it's expired.
