Regular guys, what's your Sears alternative?

After the USA pro line ended, so did my trips to Sears. I have ZERO desire for any Chinese made tools. I really like a lot of the Taiwan made stuff.

I will pick and choose between Lowes, HD and HF for certain things. I tend to buy a lot of my SO and MAC stuff off Ebay or a local truck. I am also fond of the stuff Wright Tool makes and you can order if from Walmart.com. Third party, but they can still ship it to the store.

I've never cracked a socket or spread a wrench. But I try never to misuse a tool - no cheater bars, screw driver pry bars, chrome sockets on impact guns, or ratchet hammers.

But knock on wood, thanks for the info fellas!

The average tool user will never break them. I have spread a few open end wrenches trying to make things move in tight spaces.

Canadian Tire hands down for my sockets etc. Home Depot for my cordless tools (Rigid), then IR for my air tools. Some snap on stuff but never felt the need.

Since discovering deals on GW, Gray and Williams I rarely step into Canadian Tire anymore. The one place Canadian Tire shines is 30% off on Channel lock. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Canadian tire stuff, but Gearwrench is far better when it comes to sockets and stuff.

If I need something in a hurry, often my only choice is Harbor Freight. Otherwise, I try to buy used tools through CL and Ebay as much as possible. If you're somewhat dilligent in checking frequently you can catch some decent deals.

I gave up on buying new CM tools when they first started shifting production offshore and the quality got worse.

I have an ample assortment of most tools, but if it's a tool i need RIGHT NOW, I'll run down to the local NAPA Store and get a Carlyle. If I have time, I'll go on Amazon to buy Wright or SK with 2 day shipping

When I'm in Kansas City, I'll stop in at HJE, at least, there I can see, touch and feel before I buy

I've had good luck with Tekton as a Craftsman replacement. It is another brand option with better prices and excellent customer service and warranty support. The quality is good enough for a weekend mechanic who doesn't wrench daily. Most of there stuff is made in Taiwan with a few items made in USA and some in China. Some basic items are currently on sale on Amazon for good prices.

That's my experience as well. I also like that they sell most of their pieces individually, so I can easily replace lost items out of a set.

I buy Craftsman when I have points to burn, otherwise Tekton, Gearwrench, Harbor Freight or any brands as long as it has good review at GJ. I buy them from eBay, CL or when they are on sale.

I do try to buy Tekton as much as I can if possible. I like the customer support review at GJ, and I like the idea of supporting that company.

Just bought something from tekton for the first time. It's their long flex head wrenches should be here tomorrow. We'll see how they do!

I have been known to abuse some hand tools. With that said the only Craftsman items I ever broke were 1/4 , 3/8 ratchets and some screw drivers. Never broke a socket, combination wrench or anything else. My 1/2 " ratchet is 30 years old and still doing fine.

I stripped a brand New #2 Phillips head on a stubborn screw. Made in USA too! They replaced it with no problems. I assume it was not tempered properly.

I am happy to look at most Taiwanese made tools as substitutes in place of Chineses made Craftsman.

Bob's Tools in Des Moines, IA. They carry a lot of American brands and have similar pricing to Epstein's.

I've really been impressed with GearWrench. If I had to start from scratch, that's probably what I would go with for most hand tools.

Wiha for the screwdrivers.
Knipex and Channellock for Pliers.

Still usually way less than buying off a tool truck.
