Hi everyone,
I'm feeling a little dumb with this issue, but it has to be asked. First of all, I'm in Waddell, AZ, and happy to be a new part of this community.
My problem....... I've got an old Sharpe 606A filter regulator that has not really been used all that much. In the past, I was able to actually regulate the air pressure with no trouble. However, this past weekend I was helping my nephew repaint his electric guitar.
I recently bought a big air compressor and a DuraBlock 007 gun. Started to spray primer and all was well. But I noticed I was not able to regulate the air pressure at the Sharpe. Never had that problem before, but then again, I only used it once in a great while. Took it apart and didn't find anything unusual. But I bought a new regulator assy just to know it was all new again. Put the **** thing together and it still wont regulate the pressure. Full in or out on the screw makes no difference. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

So you have a new air compressor, new piping?, just put things together? I would suggest two things,
1. check that the pressure regulator is rated for the input pressure, i.e. did you go from a single stage to a two stage compressor?
2. Is the regulator installed correctly? Are you applying pressure to the inlet port or one of the output ports?

You replaced the old Sharpe regulator with a new regulator and still cannot regulate the air pressure. I agree with larry_g it is the regulator installation.

Your new 'big compressor" may be generating more pressure than the inlet of the regulator can handle or you have the regulator installed backwards. Check the regulator pressure ranges (inlet and outlet) and verify the outlet pressure at the compressor is lower than the maximum inlet pressure of the regulator. Also verify the inlet side of the regulator is connected to the high pressure side of the pipe (compressor) side.

Regulators are simple devices that use a spring and flexible rubber-like diaphragm to control outlet pressures. Problems with them are typically the diaphragm will harden with age and tear or they will clog with dirt or corroded metal preventing the control of air through the regulator. New regulators are very reliable.
