Reloading bench build...

I realized from the start that I was going to need more space especially more storage. I have the Frankford wet tumbler and brass drier and have no place to use or store them. I also wanted a place to house my little pancake compressor for those occasions I might need to blow something off or whatever. I had planned to build something but opted to just buy. I'm ready to get on with the loading. lol...

A trip to Harbor Freight with coupon in hand for one of their new rolling workbenches and I had my solution.

Comes pretty much assembled. Just a matter of bolting on the casters and the handle. I removed the decals and HF emblem. As with the other HF tool carts and tool boxes that I have I'll say that it's not a Snap On but crazy nice for $239.



Little compressor fits nicely.



Just a couple of mods for now. I really wanted the compressor to be plumbed to the outside so I could have the cabinet closed to help muffle the sound. Pretty simple process. Just a quick connect and a fitting and 1/2" washer through a 1/2" hole I drilled in the side that will be closest to the main bench. A magnetic hook holds the hose on the outside.







Second mod was to add the HF power strip to the back. Where the bench will be located there is an electrical plug right behind it. Quite handy for it to be right there but that means it won't be able to be right against the wall. I could envision a screw or whatever falling off the back and having to move the bench to retrieve it. The power strip solved both of those issues. Couple of pieces of aluminum angle screwed to the strip and then to the cabinet holds the power strip.





One of the purposes for this bench is case tumbling and drying. Turns out that both the Frankford tumbler and drier both fit in the right side of the cabinet along with my chronograph and assorted other goodies. Pretty cool.



A FB friend told me that these benches are going to be on sale in a couple of weeks for $199. I may just have to pick up another.

Wow, that is a nice cart for the money. I was waiting to buy the red 5-dr cart, but I think I may just spring for that cart. It's much nicer for my needs than the red cart.

Its been a long time since I checked in on any of your projects I must say your wood working skills are impressive! The reload table is a work of art...true craftsmanship!!! Awesome bench

I had to comment on your woodworkers workbench that all the parts are sitting on in this photo! It is just a awesome piece! Did you make that bench as well?

Don't know if it has been asked yet, but what glass are you running on that rig?

I have been loading .308 and 30-378 for a few years now.

The .308 likes 208gr A-maxes and the 30-378 like sierra match kings.

It’s a Sightron Siii 10-50x60. Super nice scope and not too bad on the pocketbook.

I plan to stack Stanley boxes in the same way.

I used to shoot a .308 X 1.5 inch back in the 1980s. I put 10k rounds through it. I enjoyed rim fire the most.

Today, I would like to try the 6.5 Creedmore through the Roger chassis gun. What a bargain!

Hi Gene! Great to hear from you! I have shot the RPR in Open with factory ammo. Not the best result. Those F Open guys are crazy good. Not really much better in F-T/R but that's where I plan to concentrate my efforts shooting the Stiller .308.

I have 3 of them. One is attached to it's stock base. The other two are being attached to my InlineFab stand so I can move the lights to each side of the press.

Thanks TerryH...I don't claim to be a great wood worker. I hand made all this in a room in my basement that is very secure to say the least. I have a very large WWII collection as well as my firearm addiction...LOL
The "T" track I inlay-ed into the bench top has been awesome to say the least. It allows me to mount what ever I need, wherever I need it. Then remove it all to have a smooth top for working.
Notice the single stage presses have mounting plates on them. These allow for rapid attachment and removal via the "T" track on the bench top. I have a small vice that is mounted on a quick removal pad also.

If you want to look into the "big" stuff...meaning it accepts standard 3/8 bolts in the track...check out Peachtree Woodworking Supply Inc....that is where I got mine from.

Mine is not as refined just brick ********* strong. Everything is 2x construction material. Top is laminated 2x4 and the shelf is 2x8's Syp ran through the planer, dadoed, and glued/screwed together. The top is heavy enough that it sets on 4 1" oak dowels. The shelf unit sets on and there is a piece of 1/2" ply that forms the back and over laps the top screwed to it and two timber lags from the bottom of the top into the side uprights. Allows the whole shebang to be disassembled. Each of the three sections takes two men to move(I can lift and move the sections in the shop but not through halls or in tight areas)

The shotshell press on the right is mounted on a plate. This plate can be switched out in 10 secs or so. My single stage and a vise is mounted on other plates. The base plate is set flush. Pulling the pin down allows you to pull forward and inch and lift the top plate post out of the key holes. Mounting another plate just drop another in and push. The pin automatically locks. The Plates were plasma cut. The T post were turned on the lathe. They are threaded into the plate. They are adjusted for a good plate to plate fit but no binding and locktited in place.

The Dillon is permanently mounted.

I did a ton of research before building my bench. One thing for sure is reloaders are an inventive sort.

I doubled up the top and bolted it to the wall so it is rock solid so primer seating is consistent. The light and built in power strip are very nice features.

Storage on top works perfectly for supplies like brass polish what not. Other drawers hold all of my other reloading items, parts etc.

Area underneath is where I keep my media and tumbler.

Thanks. The .308 is destined for NRA F-T/R class completion. That class is restricted to .308 or .223. I have a 6.5 CM Ruger RPR that I love. I’ll eventually be loading for it. I have a Tikka T3x .223 that I want to load for as well.

Glad to see another RPR here! I just purchased a Ruger RPR .308 yesterday. I have not even picked it up yet. I have a Nightforce 4x20 with 20MOA on it.

I'd love to get some feedback about the pros and cons of your RPR. Mine has a larger muzzle break by Magpul and I received 3 magazines, (2) 10 round and a 20 round.

I love my RPR. It's a 6.5 CM. Incredible how these rifles hoot for the money. I've changed a bunch of stuff on it but it shot great out of the box.

I finally got to the point of loading some round! 7 of them to be exact. Will be doing an incremental pressure test tomorrow. I also got the lights finished in the gun room. Changed the existing bulbs to 17w led's and put up 2 4' led shop lights. All lights in the room are 5000k led's now. Kinda has that operating room feel now.

I'm jealous of your reloading area. I have mine in shambles right now. I want to start reloading my rifle rounds, have wanted to for decade now. Only shotshell so far, doing it since 2003.

As for the RPR, I plan to pick it up this next few days, waiting for it to ship from Wisconsin Cabelas to my local store. I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait.

I hear ya man. I bought my RPR when they were a little scarce. Was on the waiting list for a bit. It was worth it. You'll love the rifle. I'm only loading for my F Class .308 now but I will be loading for the RPR before long. I have a Tikka T3x Varmint in .223 that I plan to load for as well. It's a disease. lol...

As for the rpr, glad to hear someone is so positive about it. It got great reviews, but whatever that can be misleading. Glad to speak to someone who seems to have very specific first hand knowledge. The reloading experience solidified it for me that you knew something of a thing or two about this and the setup.

I almost bought a 6.5 creed and it's on the list but I really want a 308 first. I also considered a bergara. I might still buy one in 6.5. But one thing at a time. I sold a handgun I didn't like to buy the rpr.
