I'm going to put a shed behind my Ga/shop. I've decided to go ahead and put my air compressor out there along with my sand blaster cabinet.

From the detached shed I plan to plum in a steel pipe back to the GA shop along with a remote power switch in the GA itself. There will be about 6 foot gap between the 2 structures. Here's what I"m thinking - appreciate any input, comments, suggestions,

* 3-way switch, 1 in GA and 1 in shed so I can power on compressor from either location. Not sure if a switch can be lit in such a way to indicate if the plug is powered or not.

* Steel pipe exit side of shed, drop down, bury, come back up side of shed and enter back wall of GA...

* Inside GA, T piping and have a vertical line along back wall in easy reach with quick connects and line up in rafters to a retractable 50 ft hose reel overhead in middle somewhere.

* Short rubber hose between compressor and piping exiting shed.

* Water trap/filter plumbed in.

Sounds like a workable plan and having several remote illuminated start/stop switches is an easy basic circuit. In my 2400 sq/ft shop I have three of these start/stop a/c stations; one near the a/c, another by the exit door and another in the prime shop area bay. This allows me to power up the a/c where ever I'm at w/o too much walking.
Depending on your a/c horse power requirements, you may wish to incorporate a motor starter switch to make things easier and more along the lines of a commercial set up. I've used several of these setups over time, all with good results. The best place I've found to buy the necessary components is on ebay, otherwise it's very expensive.

You will eventually have a nightmare brewing with a underground pipe setup as you describe. Regardless of distance, and regardless of filtration, water will collect in that cradle you plan to manufacture with the piping setup.
