I found this when going through my dad's old stuff. Apparently he tried almost anything to make money. This is very old probably around late 40's or 50's.

In the very early 50's, I remember we were the only house on our block with a garage door opener! My Father's company had done some radar work for the gummint during the war, and they used some of the knowledge and componentry to develop an opener that would open automatically when you pulled into the driveway - or you could push a button on the dash and open it - I remember Mom using it in our 1949 Studebaker on a rainy day and marveling at the fact that she didn't have to get out of the car to open the door......

Funny enough - I pulled out a 50s vintage opener on a similar vintage tilt-up just last month... Still worked beautifully - only got replaced due to home sale and an inspector who *gasp* actually noted the lack of photoeyes. ;)

Second time in 6months a home inspectors looked at a garage door - I'm flippin amazed.
