Florida's Skin Tag... OK Largo
Picked this up for $20 over the weekend, handles all appear to have flat blade screws in them instead of rivets. So another repaint won't be too bad. Anyone have an extra Rem Line tag? Once I strip it I'm sure the original screen printing will go with the first repaint.

I had a top handle box with a few drawers and I put on side handles like the ones you are looking for because it was too heavy when loaded to carry with the top handle. It was a long time ago and I am trying to to remember where I got them. I think it might have been from anothet tool box company, bought as reolacement parts I will take a look..

I did a search. Try "tool chest handle" or something similar. They are everywhere, Amazon, ebay, HD, Ace, etc. I did not see one quite like mine with an enlarged grip from formed steel but one had a soft grip. Most are just a steel bail. There is a lot out there. I am sure you can find something you like.

Thanks guys...I feel really fortunate to grab this thing. Here are a couple with the drawers open - the second full-width drawer from the bottom is divided into three sections lengthwise...

Flatintune - that's a great Powr-Kraft box - sure looks like a RemLine-made model to me...

This completes my "motley crew" collection of tool boxes for now...everything from run of the mill Craftsman to a vintage Snap-On piece. Now to continue filling them up...!

First post here, been a pretty constant lurker for some time but since my uncle passed away in May I've been on here constantly finding info on old tools he had. One of the items I brought home was my Grandpas Remline set. Its in a very used state, lots of dents, some of the slides are more worn than others but overall totally usable. While the side handles are completely roached the front "little man" pulls are cleaning up remarkably well, very surprised to not see bad pitting considering the rust on them.

My post today is in hopes of getting a little info. I've searched many threads on here and found lots of good info on these boxes but I don't recall seeing any of them with the side shelf. It appears to be original as the underside paint matches the lower panel that was protected from UV.Does anyone know if this was indeed a factory option? If its aftermarket I may omit it from the restoration but if its original or some sort of option that was available on it I will likely keep it.

The base is some sort of heavy duty 1/4" steel thing my Grandpa fabricated, the castors wheels are rotted out so I may try to put some different castors on using the original holes but wouldn't rule out making a nice reinforcement plate for the bottom.

I love the name my grandpa painted on the top, but not sure if it will survive the resot or not, still debating.

Its a killer old box and I love the thin drawers. I've already buffed out a few of the handles and started stripping one of the drawers just to know what I have in store. I will have to wait a bit to start full bore because I'm still trying to finish up a little resto on a large 6" Wilton Machinest vise (09-600 made in 1976) that I also got from my uncles.

1 little one done, 12 more and an entire box to go. I do like the stainless spanner truss head screws I found to replace the rivets, they don’t seem to stand out as much as other options I played with.

I picked up this Remline as a freebie, well actually as payment for work I`ve done for the neighbor over the years, I was supposed to get both but her grandson snatched the SK roll around while she was gone, but its ok...got a hand full of tools in it..its in reasonable shape, now looking for the matching roll around base for it.

Going to look at this one tomorrow. Hack paint job but for $40 and just down the road it's worth checking out. Older boxes of any kind just do not seem to pop up around here.

I think all the little drawers should have slides? The one looks a bit crooked so I'll check all them to see what is missing. Also I think there is supposed to be a tool tray in the top?

Other then the missing handle and lock I hope it is all there.

Picked up the bottom and top last year for $100 including a bunch of tools.
Found the top and middle boxes south of Hartford a month ago for $50. I feel lucky to have found the middle box... haven't seen too many middles in any of the Remline threads.

First post. Hello. Glad that is out of the way.

So today's addition to the Remline "post em if you got em" thread.

Acquired yesterday and so far all that has been done is reattaching drawer slides and 1/4 can of WD-40 to make said drawer slides slide.

The tools shown came with the boxes. More tools are in the box throw-all cubby.

Not as nice as some in this thread but nicer than several. Just need to get the drawer faces cleaned up and load it with my tools.

Went to clean the drawer faces and found they were "clean". So a buff job is in the future.

Wiped all the drawers out with mineral spirits and then wiped them out again with glade potpourri air freshener. Hey it is what I found quick and worked dandy to knock out the faint mineral spirit smell. Smells a little like Christmas as well in the garage now

Bought 2 rolls of husky drawer liner at H/D and lined all the drawers. Wasn't enough for all 19 drawers and the top lid, but the box had a several misshapen liners when I bought it and I was able to straighten and re-purpose them to get all trays lined including the bottom cubby that I had not intended to line. Only had to two piece 3 of the trays. You can see one of the 2 pieced liners in the top box.

Yep they saw a lot of hard use in my Dads Diesel shop but I think they will look great when I get them all done and will be able to hand down to my son.

Hi everyone, I bought an older vintage 6 drawer tool chest on Facebook messenger for $25 and think that it may be a Rem Line. It is very cool looking although somewhat abused. I am going to try and figure out how to post pictures in here and when I do will add some from my restoration. All the previous posts in here helped a lot and they are all soo cool!!

Picked up this 10 drawer top chest today off Facebook. Dated’59 and came with an original key! Almost no rust aside from some surface rust on the chrome pulls . Looks like someone tried to break into it. Hence the dented lid and there are some pry marks on the drawers but should clean up well! Makes me want to find the matching 9 drawer lower roller!

Question for the more knowledgeable remline guys... I found this picture of a page out of the catalog... catalog mentions the 2 drawer add on so that your 7 drawer roller can become a 9 drawer. Looks like they are calling it an insert. How does this attach to the lower roller? Do you remove the the lower cover and then slide right in? Ad says it installs in seconds with no screws or modifications... are there already slides present in the 7 drawer and then you just insert the drawers? Anyone have a 9 drawer that can answer this?

Smoke

My Dad had one in his box until I ran into it with a forklift as a dumb teenager. If memory serves the Drawer slides are mounted on sheet steel that just slips into the sides of the lower part without removing the door. Then you slide in the Drawers. Would love to find one to replace the one my younger self destroyed....lol

Interesting.. well at least that gives me an idea that if I found a clean 7 drawer, one could find parts from another to install to make it a 9 drawer

I worked most of the dent out of the top of the lid but at least it can lock now. Per my signature below, I am really looking for the craftsman version but this may need to suffice. The craftsman ones are rarer than hens teeth in my area. I used my Proto body hammers and this stud welder to pull the dent from the outside . If it comes down to it my ocd will probably force me to get a replacement lid but we shall see. I paid $50 which includes the original key so that is a decent deal in my book!

If I end up using this I understand I would probably not lock it most of the time. I can tend to be a bit of a perfectionist so sometimes I desire outcomes that are out of my skill set. If I end up using this I may just find a donor box and replace the lid. The hinge is held on with some spot welds. The rest of the box and paint is in fairly good shape !

Four drawers of my Dads old tool box done and ready to reinstall, Two more in paint at the moment and then comes the fun part of stripping the box itself.

Posted in the vintage toolboxes thread also...

Picked this up Sunday for a fair price (not a "you ****") from the family of a retired GE employee. To sweeten the deal, they threw in (4) 1/2" ratchets and a 24" Starrett ruler, that I had pulled aside to purchase.

Continued...

20200608_194622.jpg

The boxes are in great condition and I'll just remove stickers, clean and lube and put into use. I'll keep 1 Proto and Indestro ratchet and ebay the other Proto and SK.
I'm extremely happy with this purchase and it will pair up nicely with my other Rem line stack...

Just picked up a couple mids and a 12 drawer top. The paint job isn't great but I've seen much worse. Just need to find the bottom now... someday one will turn up.

I'll have to look through the thread and see what people are using to replace the rivets and original paint matching.

1 little one done, 12 more and an entire box to go. I do like the stainless spanner truss head screws I found to replace the rivets, they don’t seem to stand out as much as other options I played with.

Those look interesting... which ones did you get?
