Hey everyone! I've been reading the posts here for a while now, tons of great info on here! I figured I would actually document one of my projects and post it on here.
A while back I decided I needed another tool box, I looked at used big name boxes, HF boxes etc. Nothing really grabbed me for what I wanted to do.
So I found this on CL, mid 60's Remline, let the rehab begin:

First step get rid of all the old paint, mostly used a resin pad on a grinder, one from Home Depot one from HF, not much difference. Only after did I think I should have used a respirator since it was probably lead paint.

Next get everything primed and taped. Found some Rustoleum "ultra" I think, supposedly better rust protection. It went on sort of a brick red, thought it might be easier for red paint, I think the red paint covered better than with standard grey primer.

Bottom box masked off, paper and tape, you get the idea.

Top box paint in progress, for the red I used regular over the counter rattle can red, 3 coats. For the black I used spray can bed liner, I've had good results on things other than lining beds with this stuff.

Drawer fronts and insides being coated with the bed liner.

Kinda cool alternating pattern on the hinge.
After paint, sprayed 3 coats of matte clear, I think this gives a little more depth to the finished color. Then 2 coats of gloss clear.

The casters were beat up! Not entirely sure what they are made of, kind of a rubber/clay/metal mash up. They say "Basick" on them. Evened them out on the belt/disk sander.

Cut out a plywood insert for the bottom of the box too give a little more stability, was a little off kilter before.
No pics of polishing the handles, tried a few things here to get the rust off: Tin foil and water, works good for light rust. Soaking in coke, didn't work. Sand blasting worked but would still need polishing. So I just used the dremal with a wire brush. Got pretty close to the finish I wanted, they were not chrome.
Also I had the friction sliders out, put them in the dishwasher to clean them right up, then lube with some teflon dry wax spray.
So here is the finished product, it's not perfect but it is functional.

Total time about 25 hours over 10 evenings.
I hope you all find this interesting, I welcome any thoughts too.

It took about 25 hours over 10 days, but I was taking my time and ran into a few slow downs along the way.
