Remodeling the 40x80 Vette Garage

Ironhorse on this forum said I should create a thread to show the remodel of my Vette garage. I bought the building from Ironhorse, and it is directly behind his shop. When I first put a contract on the building 3-21-12, it looked like this on the outside:

Ironhorse's building and my building were on the same the plat, and it took until August to get it replatted and approved by the city. When we closed the deal on 8-8-12 the building looked like this:

By 8-23-12 we had all of the old drywall removed, replaced rotten studs and added framing to make the walls 12' tall. Here are a couple of pictures:

By 8-27-12 we had the top four feet of the walls insulated and drywalled. This was done first so we could start on the drop ceiling. We also put in the framing to pour concrete for a 13x30 building added on to store a boat in.

On 9-1-12 hare are pictures of the living area framed in and the concrete poured for the boat storage.

On 9-5-12 the framing is going up for the suspended ceiling, and the steel is going up for the boat storage.

On 9-9-12 lighting went in the suspended ceiling.

On 9-10-12 the first set of "insulated" doors were installed.

On 9-17-12 here are a couple of exterior pictures.

On 9-18-12 here are a couple of pictures of some ceiling tiles going up and the interior of the boat storage.

On 9-24-12 one of the small entry doors has been removed and new metal siding has been added. The forms are in for the driveway into the boat storage. More ceiling tiles have been installed with R-30 insulation on top. Work is being done to turn the two small restrooms into one larger bathroom with a shower.

The front of the living area is to look like an old store front. We used bricks cut in half to cover the front.

On 10-12-12 here are some pictures of the outside painted.

On 10-21-12 we have R-30 insulation in all of the walls and the ceilings. The central air conditioning is installed. The first set of "insulated" rollup doors which will not seal air tight have been removed. Panel type garage doors with an R-17.5 rating have been installed and the outside of the doors has been painted.

On 10-26-12 the wood on the store front is painted and the corrugated rusted tin is installed on the roof of the store front. The dry wall is all in and has been floated.

what size of square posts did you use for the storefront UPRIGHTS?? 6x6, 7x7 or 8x8???? I like the size of them, and I'm going to be building a deck @ the lake next year, and I want to use upright posts that look the same size as yours do

On the Corvette Forum I am 00Nassaur. I will have four Corvettes in the garage.

A 1960 retro-rod red with white coves with an LS2 engine and 6-speed transmission.

A 1963 project car I just bought. The original split window was removed and many original parts including the engine are gone. I am going to put the split window back in and retro-rod it. It will be my first project when the garage is done.

A 2000 Nassu Blue Convertible.

And a 2008 Jet Stream Blue Z06.

I am pretty sure the posts are 8X8's, but I will measure them the next time I go over to the garage. I measured them, and they are actually 6x6's.

What was the story on the 'insulated' roll-ups? Did somebody have to eat the cost of the re-install of something that seals?

I trusted the metal building sub-contractor when he said that what he recommended were the best insulated rollup doors. He knew I was installing central air. As soon as I saw the doors installed, I asked him how the doors were ever going to seal to make the heating and cooling of the building efficient. All he had to say was that they were insulated doors.

I then got with my main contractor and got the doors replaced with doors that sealed and have an R-17.5 rating.

On 10-29-12 the interior doors are hung and the walls are blown and then the high parts were knocked down with what looks like a floor squeegee to give it a smoother finish.
