So we went ahead and had an addition put on our house, but didn't think this far ahead...

My family has more than a few dogs, seven actually, which is way too many if anyone is wondering. Before the addition we would take them all down a flight of stairs and let them out the basement sliding door. A while back I added a motion activated above that door to give me more light. After the addition, we just walk to the new side door on the house to let them out.

My problem is this....one of my dogs seems to be afraid of the dark (such a stupid problem to be having) and won't do her duty outside after dark. The result is that we come down EVERY morning to piss and **** on the floor of the room we keep them in overnight. The light that is outside the door that we use now is just a standard entry light. Around the corner is a pair of very bright floodlights that illuminate the entire yard.

Is there any way for me to remotely activate these floodlights from the other side of the house?

Powerline lighting control.

Insteon, UPB, Z-Wave are a few of the technologies.

You would have to replace the main switches with ones that would cost anywhere from $40 to $100 per switch depending on what brand and type.

You might also have to install a multi button controller to bea able to control the lights from a remote location.

With any of these technologies you can create a n-way switch just by linking them together.

Another option would be to use a dual-brite lamp where the dog is willing to go to, and use the slave control to light the lamp outside, setting the time for something like ten minutes, which should be enough to get the dog to go.

I am actually goin to do this so I can add a switch for my outside lights on my detached garage that I can control from the back door of my house with out running a line out there. I have not decided exactly which to use, but I have looked at Insteon simply because the reviews show it is very reliable.

Done right, it is the next best thing since sliced bread. Be aware that you must ensure both legs of the single phase supply is properly coupled. You must also ensure that any noise / signal suckers are taken care of with filters.

Almost 98% of all erratic / performance issues is due to noise / signal suckers such as UPS, cell phone chargers, CFL lights, etc.

With Insteon's dual band technology these problems are less and less these days.
