I have a Quincy 325 I would like to quiet down a bit. Installing the compressor outside is not an option at this point in time. The compressor is installed against the gable end wall of my shop. I am thinking about installing 1" PVC pipe up the wall, through the soffit to the outside, with the filter outside. The threaded connection on the compressor head is 3/4, so I figure 1" should be big enough. Total pipe run would be ~15'. Thoughts?

I would think the compressor head would get hot and the PVC intake connection to the head might soften and melt.

Perhaps use a short section of threaded black iron pipe with fittings to get away from the heat of the head, then a hydraulic hose for vibration isolation, then connect to your stationary intake pipe.

Good answer! Thanks. Think the 1" will feed it enough air?
I would think so, if you went from 3/4" IPS to 1" IPS (both Sch40), the flow cross-sectional area increases 75% if my math is right. I used the pipe data from here https://taylorwalraven.ca/pipe-data-steel-iron-pipe-size.php

I found this random picture of what your compressor's original filter should have looked like, so I am assuming it has a male 3//4" ****** on it.

I googled remote intake air filter for Quincy 325 and this came up. Looks like a plastic hose?

Thanks for the link to the remote air intake. I completely forgot that divers regularly use those for their breathing air compressors. I work in ship repair and see their rigs often enough on the piers.

That settles it, I think I'll build a remote intake when I get this thing plumbed up and running. I will be out of town for a few months, just researching right now.

What is the composition of the flexible hose?

On the diver hoses? Not sure, never stopped to check. Might have to next time I see one. Probably won't be for a while though, next ship I'm working on will be in a dry dock for the avail.

I have a 325 in our shop and installed a Universal brand intake silencer which made a big difference. Solberg also makes great intake silencers from what I've read in the reviews.
Since most of the pump noise comes from the intake valves, I'm sure moving the intake to outside would also solve the issue.
1" intake pipe would be fine I'm quite sure.
