Not really finding what I'm looking for after a brief search. Basically, I just want to turn on/off a bedroom ceiling light and fan. Don't need wifi or motion sensor. Just a simple remote that does power only. No dimmer, either. What would you recommend?

I'll second Caseta, I have a few room lights and the porch light wired with them, plus the ceiling fan in the livingroom and our bedroom. You can set timers (on at dusk, etc) for the lighting plus dimming. Best thing about the fans? I get cold after I fall asleep with a fan blowing on me so we can put the fan on low or medium then have it turn off at midnight or 1am if the temp is gonna drop overnight when we sleep with the windows open.

I used something like this to create a 3-way setup. I don't like that I can't disable the dimming function. Anyway, it worked well. I had a porch light that was wired outside of the house. I didn't like having to reach out into the cold winter night to turn the light on/off. So I bought a kit and put the hard wired light outside and the wireless remote inside in an unused slot in a 2 gang box. Works nicely and one would never know it wasn't a hardwired "fancy" setup.

Alternatively, if you just have power lines what about this:

You don't even need an empty spot to add the remote, they make a kit that mounts the remote to the rear of a switch plate. This is a 2 gang box, the switch on the left is a remote.

I used the Caseta switches for a light circuit in my garage, which turns on a high mounted barn light over the main door and a smaller light above the side door. I have one switch in a fake switch plate (like the one above) in the house, and the other switch is inside the garage door.

The garage is about 50-60 feet from the house, but I can use the Caseta to turn on the lights from the house before I walk out to the garage. Saves me having to fumble with unlocking the side door in the dark.

Caseta is perfectly reliable and doesn't interfere with anything. Once you start, you'll likely want more, and that's okay :)

Not really. There isn’t anything else that has the 100% perfect reliability that’s as cheap. If you’re only going to do one switch ever, you might see if you can find the older non-Internet connected version that doesn’t have a hub.

Caseta Wireless is the base edition of this tech. RadioRA 2 Select is next, followed by RadioRA 3, and then followed by HomeWorks. Each is more expensive and offer extra features.

I had an X10 setup for probably 10 years, while it was inexpensive it was also unreliable, and after adding a couple UPS's for my network equipment parts of it wouldn't work at all, even with filters. I saw the Caseta system on an episode of Ask This Old House a couple years ago as it had what I wanted, mainly local control that still worked if the internet went out. A lot of the cheaper solutions are cloud based and won't work if they can't talk to the companies servers. Add to the the Pico remotes and also smart phone control, for the money I think it's the best bang for the buck, and it has been rock solid. Turns on the living room lights and porch light at dusk, dimmer control in the LR and kitchen, and as mentioned earlier timer & speed control for our 2 ceiling fans.

For the past 2 years I have wireless outlets for the lights in my bedroom and family room. My home is older and the light switch is only wired to the ceiling fan/light these rooms have.

the wireless outlets work off blue tooth. plug into the wall and hit the learn button, plug the item in and click the number on the remote. learns instantly. range is at least 50ft (all that i tried). I think I paid 20 bucks for 5 outlets and 2 remotes

edit: 30 bucks https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N23GRYD/?tag=atomicindus08-20
