Remote control switch

Hey guys, I have a pole barn with a new LED flood light mounted at the peak of the gable end. I don't want a auto "dusk to dawn" light, but manual control. The hardwired switch to control the light is in the basement of my house. Since I'm getting older, getting up & down stairs is getting more difficult. So the basement switch is one that is remote controlled (from I guess a radio frequency 9v battery switch) upstairs. Last few nights (after dark) I have noticed the LED flickering turning into a glow. So there must be some small current leaking thru from the hardwired switch.

The LED light was previously a halogen that never had this issue, Could the upstairs switch not be sending a strong enough signal to the hardwired basement switch? Or maybe I need different hard & remote switches to work with LED instead of halogen?

Any ideas?

I don’t think the remote wireless switch is a factor. It is just a remote switch that interrupts and connects a relay in the receiver that you attached to your hardwire switch In the basement.

Check to see which leg (hot or neutral) is being interrupted and connected by the receiver relay in the basement. The receiver relay should be interrupting the hot leg. If it is interrupting and connecting the neutral, and power is always flowing to the led light, you may see the glowing that you described. You would not see that with halogen bulb since that needs more power to light up.

Also, if the hard wire switch is a light-up kind that lights up when it is off, I have seen that glow happen with some of those as well; they let a little bit of current pass through.

I know with X-10 control system , there is a bit of leak thru in the remote switches and LED's will flicker when the units are in the off setting . I use x-10 for holiday lighting and anything LED , I run a 4watt tungsten night light bulb in parallel to avoid the flickering. I suppose a resistor could be used as well, but the bulb is easy in my case
I also have candelabra flicker bulbs and they flicker when off without a tungsten bulb in line when using x-10 as well .
