Does anyone know of a remote controlled 110v Light ?

I am looking to put one on my Shop exterior wall that is about 150' from my House ( straight shot ). There are times I would like to be able to see the area at night w/o having to go down there.

I do have 2 motion lights down there, one on the front and one on the East ( house ) end.

Its a differant set up since the shop is on a residential lot that we purchased, so it has its own street access and is wide open.

TIA

When we built our detached garage I had my cousin/our electrician wire a contactor to our garage door operator light circuit. The lights come on when we open the door and turn off when the operator light times out.

I just bought a remote controlled adapter for a customer of mine. It plugs into a standard outlet and then a light plugs into it. Then there's a "clicker" that controls the off and on. Sounds like what you're trying to do but I don't know if it has enough range. I got it at Home Depot

Wal-Mart sells a wireless control that plugs into a standard outlet. You can plug a light into that. We have rope lights around our deck connected to the remote. It's great to turn on before hitting the driveway. For me it's about 100' that I have tested from the remote to the controller - but it works great.

This is one I found with a quick search:

I picked mine up in the Christmas section about 2 years ago. I saw them again this year and they are usually under $15.

Lutron makes a dimmer switch with a radio frequency remote, I believe it's one of the Maestro series. The remote looks just like an overhead door remote. I'm not sure what the effective range is on this, but it may work if you just want a remote inside your house that controls that light fixture.

I wanted light at my detatched garage too, so I simply installed photocell controlled florescent lights on the outside walls. This way I don't need any switches or controls to mess with. The lights automatically come on at night and off in the daytime. Florescents run cheap, so you won't go broke paying for the electricity, and you still have light anytime you are outside at night.

look into a product called X10 they make switches ,plugs and lights that can be coded to each other using the electrical wires as the link between the two. I have used them before and they are easy to setup and install. They are a little pricey but should fix your problem. ( if I recall each devise has letters like A,B and C with a second set of numbers 1,2 and 3) you set each devise to the same code and they can find each other by sending some type of code through the eletrical wiring. Hope that helps

There was a Lutron dimmer commercial on TV while I was reading this.

You can't wire it on a switch?

It has its own power service among other issues ... 150' away, 20' + below grade of the house etc, etc. Be kindly costly to run wire down there for 1 light.

Someone else suggested a clapper and use a shot gun to set it off.

Sounds like there are some options out there to look into.

Thanks !

What about just using a 100w equivilant CFL in light fixture on a photo eye ?

Can I turn it on from my house ? Hence the " remote control "

I already have 2 motion lights as stated in first post.

The cheap thing to try would be a garage sale garage door opener.
It has the remote radio control and the light sockets.
Just disconect the motor.
The only concern is the distance.

If it is on the same transformer as your house X10 or another carrier line based automation UPB, Insteon might work. You can also check into Z-wave. It is based on a wireless mesh network design and might be able to reach your garage. I only have experience with X10. A lot of home automation types hang out over at www.cocoontech.com. You can ask your question over there and get lots of help. Be careful the automation stuff can get out of control really fast.

Yep. Had one of these on our bedroom light fixture and it works great. It's line of sight though and I never had an occasion to test its effective range but it worked just as you would expect it to work.

I'm sure that distance is too far for this, but I have had good success with the remote outlets from HF. I have two in two rooms of my house (same floor, 1 room in between) and they work great.

I did not want a second remote and I wanted to be able to turn it on coming up my driveway. Since I have a Craftsman garage door opener, I found they make a remote light control unit. I just programmed it to the second button on my garage door remotes. So now I can turn it on and off as I like.
