This went around a while back. This could possibly be the coolest toolbox around. Here is a link to the finished product on youtube.

Mother of God...

I wonder how much they could get the cost down if they mass produced them. $5k is a little steep, especially considering that doesn't include labor...

Great advertisement for Faztek aluminum extrusion. I know it's not 8020 because they just recently started selling the smooth face type.

There's alot of $$ there in that alone.

5K for the remote base is a lot closer to the actual production cost than what Mac's production cost on the box is. Now if I can find a used one on here for $1000 it is mine.

That guy has some amazing fabrication skills but must not have a welder. He used some expensive aluminum frame, I've priced that stuff for some projects and its really expensive. A steel welded frame would be a much more economical way and I would think stronger.

Very nice project though

That must be a one-off show piece. All of the parts are high end for show, rather than functionality.

For instance the solar panel tray. Solar panels are the new carbon fiber, often used where it makes little sense. Pretty soon we'll see solar panel pattern stickers. That small area could barely keep up with the battery self-discharge. It might be able to move a few inches a day if you put it in a sunny spot.

I seen one that was built by a MIT professor that got tired of working in education and started setting up paint booths. His would follow off a homing device attached to him and had sensors to avoid obstacles and re-route on his own. It was probably the most amazing thing I seen in a toolbox.

Beautiful work, but strikes me as a solution in search of a problem....

Hi Jurgen,
I got your email the other day and watched the video several times.
The box and the video both look great.
I didn't have time to post about it yet.
I will post in the old thread to revive it since it has lots of info on the box.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
That thing is badass, mighty cool. My only question is since the steering assembly/front wheels as to say are held on via two pieces of the aluminum structural, can it support a fully ladened box, say 5,000 pounds? Or 2,500 pounds on that axle alone? How rough of a floor can it handle? I know its tight but the next thing may be adding a torsion bar suspension that works in conjunction with small air bags that could be inflated to compensate for loading/load height.

I bet we start seeing stuff like this offered eventually from Snap On and Matco for those who truly do roll their megaboxes around, or at least try to. I know my Kennedy cart at work weighs in close to 1,000 pounds and it is a mother to get it rolling and to keep it rolling and I weigh more than most people at 375 pounds.
