I had to buy a cheap one during construction a few years ago -- I may have bought it from HF. It was so cheap I figured it would not work very long -- worked great for a year and we tossed it after the work was done. It even had different sounds for each door --
The receiver plugged in -- so no batteries. The two door buttons had those small sub AAA batteries in them. The batteries most likely cost almost what I paid for the unit.
If that one worked -- anything you buy will.

I use one of thos cheap $30 units for my back gate. It's using a aa battery and my distance is close to 150ft. Batteries seem to last 3-4 years but it rarely gets used too.
Matter of fact it's just like this one except it's all battery operated.

The Honeywell units tend to get good reviews. I used one of their extenders on my existing wired door bell so I could hear it in a back room. It works well.

at work we have used the ones from lowes not real good but they are used many times per day 5 days a week

I bought two of these 1byone units from Amazon.
Each came with two receivers and a sender button (for like $17/shipped per set)
The receivers plug in the wall and I set it up for separate chimes for front door and back door so I know which one to answer.
I have a front door and back door receiver on each end of the house so I know when somebody rings (I just can't always get there before they leave)

I bought one at Lowes and it would not work on my metal building. Cell phones don't work n there, either.

When I moved into my home it had only a remote bell and howell wireless doorbell. It didn't work worth beans. I decided that I'd install two HF Driveway Alert system, one for the front door and one for the back. I built two wooden boxes to house the motion sensors and attached them to the soffit over the front and back door. The hole in the box that the motion sensor was installed was cut to narrow sensed area to above the door and the walkway. False triggers are kept to a minimum.
The receivers were put in different parts of the house so that you could tell if the front or back alerts were activated.
So far, for the last 3 1/2 years they've worked great. Total cost was $18 (bought them on sale),some scrap wood, left over paint, screws and a couple of hours labor. I'd do it again faced with the same issue. I like it, the sensor usually catch people as the come up the walk and I can meet them at the door before they knock. The look on their faces when I'm at the door before the are was well worth the $18. I like it also because it will tell me if anyone's prowling around. Cats and dogs walk by and it beeps once.. but people are a different matter.
