Title says it all.

Now I do know that given enough time and effort to obtain access to your typical remote garage/barn there really is not 100% way of keeping the bad guys out.

Beside motion light on all sides, and commercial grade steel doors with steel frames and no windows (or bared windows), what other recommendations do you have to make the "bad guys" choose a softer target ?

(FYI - In Detroit, a couple of guys with a sledge hammer can knock a hole in a cement block wall of a liquor store in less than 20 minutes, sometimes right under a street light. After that, 10s of thousands of dollars are gone before the alarm company can call the police and they arrive.)

Is it in an inhabited area?
If so, add a loud bell or other attention getter to the lights.
Dark and quiet is what you want to avoid.

Also obvious cameras , maybe dummies, in addition to concealed real ones.
One of the concealed ones should be at face level aimed at a sure to be looked at place.
Cameras should be battery powered and wireless connection to the hidden recorder.

I would suggest a radio which plays a strong station, 24x7 (strong signal so it doesn't wander or lose it, not AM as the ionosphere varies with time of day, maybe WJR is strong enough on AM). Does not have to be loud. In fact, very quiet, just so one can hear it when its dead silent.

For my security system, I'd make an actuator which discharges a can of pepper spray into the shop, if it gets tripped. :D Seriously. Nobody's going to steal *anything* that way.

It really depends where its going to be. For example: 7 & Evergreen forgetaboutit, not worth it.

Here are a few ideas I use at my remote shop building. Let the exterior get and stay dirty. Let the landscaping (if any) get overgrown. Don't leave anything outside that could give a clue that there's anything of value inside. My shop windows are boarded up on the inside and dirty on the outside. I don't ever leave the car trailer by the shop.

My HOA requires at least two non-operable vehicles on each property. We have a couple of troublemakers whose vehicles are all licensed and running though.
