Not directly garage related, I have a client that is handicapped and is need of a powered remotely activated walk/pedestrian gate opener. I'd like some advise on what unit to look at. I've looked at the Mighty Mule that Tractor Supply offers but according to an acquaintence they only hold up four years or less. This is a residential application.

Bill - A photo or two would really help.

First it sounds like maybe a little garden gate, then it sounds like maybe a driveway wide gate.

Need to know what the gate looks like.

There are too many variables to give an accurate answer. Will the gate be under cover? Will the gate be used by visitors/guests to the home? Because of concerns for people's safety, you can't just throw together a system without some consideration for what if. Between the lines read what would a lawyer and judge do to you if someone got hurt using the product. Therefore you need to look at a commercial handicapp access specialist. Stanley makes commercial walk door openers designed for ADA compliance. I am sure there are more but it will not be cheap. Good luck.

Thanks for the replys. I'll check out the compliant Stanley.
The gate is a walk/ pathway gate that a person on a handicap scooter can operate to access the driveway.

I am in the process of installing a large gate 34' cantilever gate and opener for our Gun Club. I have gone with a lift master brand opener, seem to be available and parts are also. Called lift master Customer Service with a couple of ? and received great information and help.Looked at a Stanley (used) opener and parts were not readily available even and the opener was only 2 years old. Lift master makes swing gate openers that would work in the situation you describe.

Called the parent company for lift master. Chamberlain. First rude guy cut me off after a ten minute wait. Referred me to the "Gate Division". That woman was equally rude and told me
Chamberlain/lift master didn't make gate openers and couldn't refer me to someone that does!!
