Remote repair

My GDO transmitters have stopped working, I have replaced the batteries and still no dice. There is absolutely nothing user serviceable inside(not even a way to reprogram) except the battery, which is one of those 2032 coin cells. It is a Chamberlain Liftmaster circa 4/2000. Don't have the cash to replace the unit, and do not understand why the remotes started to work intermittently, and then stopped other than the battery died. Like I said, I have replaced the battery and they still don't work.

You say "transmitterS" ?

If more than one tramsmitter quit at the same time, it isn't likely the remote that went bad. It would be the receiver failed.

Agreed. If both remotes went intermittent, the problem is on the receive end. Probably corrosion on the circuit board on the opener.

Good luck. . .could be a tough fix.

So i fiddled with something(can't remember what) on the receiver and it fixed it for a little while, but I am now back to very sketchy remote operation. I even replaced the batteries in the remotes, and I believe I had reset the receiver, I didn't do much that's for sure. It seems like they work better in the warmer weather than the cold. Really want it fixed as it is annoying to pull the car out in the morning, and have to get out to close overhead door.

I can open the door with either remote from inside the garage in the morning, but from outside it doesn't work. Except when I get home from work, then it works from outside just fine:wtf::headscrat

yes, check the receiver for corrosion;couldn't hurt. Any plug-in connectors should be unplugged, sprayed with contact cleaner (WD40 if you don't have any actual contact cleaner) and re-plugged. Likewise any screw connectors. Undo, spray, redo one at a time.

But really, your problem sounds like you had it right the first time: batteries. Work only when close to the receiver in the morning when they've been lying out on a table all night. In the evening they work from farther away when they've been in your nice warm pocket all day.

Batteries work by chemical reactions which proceed better when warm. I'd suspect your "new" batteries may be NOS, and a bit weak. Replace them with name brand, long-dated batteries and try again.

Good luck. All electronic devices work by witchcraft.

They sit in cold car all day in the winter...

Also someone has suggested that LED/CFLs could cause range issues? Is that a possibility? If so that *****, cus I put high output(low wattage for CFL/LED) in the sockets so I could see when I am walking around in the morning. I'd hate to try and find incandescent bulbs for this...

I had a distance problem with my door opener while CFLs were installed in it. After I reinstalled incandescent bulbs the remote range increased dramatically.

Sometimes the GD) becomes brain dead and won't receive the remote frequency. Then none of the remotes work. The GDO has to relearn the Remotes. Take a look at this:

It may not be exact, but similar.

I pulled one LED bulb out, the one closest to the door thinking it would help cuz it was in line of sight of the remote, and no change. Pulled the other one out and both work great:rolleyes: It would be nice if the eco-nazis would actually think things thru before mandating things like this, cuz I don't know if I'm gonna be able to get any edison bulbs for this thing. I wonder do newer openers play nice with the eco bulbs? So I am now hunting down some edison bulbs for this thing...

Good thing my new car has a remote for the door locks, or I'd never be able to see getting to it in the morning...

Worst case you can buy "rough service" bulbs - regular bulbs with a plastic coating on them - like you'd use in a droplight....you can find them online for about $2.50/bulb
