Remote Starter Switch?

I really like the remote starter switch that snap on sells but i don't really feel like paying 80$. I know i can make my own but i'd rather just buy a premade unit. Here's the snap on one i'm talking about ( https://store.snapon.com/Remote-Starter-Solenoid-Switch-Remote-Starter-Switch-P742111.aspx )

And the OTC one i'm contemplating ( https://www.otctools.com/products/heavy-duty-remote-starter-switch )

Are there any others i should consider for durability mostly? I know even the cheaper ones do the "same job".

I agree the snap on one looks cool but otherwise nothing special about it. Just a momentary switch with some wire. I did notice the snap on one has a sealed switch. Do any of them have a circuit breaker that would be a good feature to have

I usually just use a jumper wore off the battery but one day il pick up one of these switches

I picked up one in a box of stuff at the auction, I have never really looked at it other then a quick glance to get the ratchet out of the box. If I ever find time to clean out the garage I will finish unloading the box and put stuff away where it belongs.

I have a couple that I have found over the years - they do not carry much power so would be easy to make from spare parts too.

The Snap On one is nice because of the sealed 40A (@12V) switch. Since that makes up ~90% of the entire tool, if one with the same capability could be had for less, why not?

I have a really dumb question, what type of repair would require a remote starter switch?

Adjusting solid lifters, adjusting vales on a OHC engine, checking to see if a starter is good (just did that last week) among others

Bumping the engine to break crank bolts if you don't have a impact, internal engine adjustments. I wanted it for checking to see if the timing belt in a status was moving as well as checking spark and injector pulse. Good for no start conditions.

Adjusting points and checking the distributor on older vehicles.
For bypassing bad key switches, starter buttons, wiring when you want to start a diesel vehicle

I made one years ago with a 35mm film can, a 25 amp push button momentary-contact switch and some appliance cord. Worked just fine for years. Once my Dad passed, his 50's Snap On switch took its place. At the cost of Innova one, it isn't worth making your own.

Forgive my ignorance- could one of these be used to start a vehicle with a dead starter?

Say, if you had to get it home so you could do the repair?

Nope. All that switch does is replace the "start" position of the ignition switch, so you can rotate the engine in small increments. Won't even start the engine unless you have the ignition switch to the "on" position.

No, but it could start a vehicle with a messed up ignition as long a it turns "on"

Here's my version of a remote starter:
remote starter jumper3.jpg

Other end of wire on the clip goes to starter solenoid relay. No cost, used stuff laying around in garage.
