I am thinking about ways to turn on an exterior flood light attached to my detached garage from the house. I would prefer to not have to run a whole circuit back to the house for the switch. Does anyone know of a remote type switch that would work?

HD, Grainger, and a lot of other places. I'm sure Amazon would also be a good source. There is the old standby, X-10, too...

Get a garage sale garage door opener.
Take off the track and disconnect the motor.
Wire the flood light to the light socket.
Bypass the timer if you want it to stay on untill you click the remote again.

Neat idea but I don't think it will pass code around here. Can anybody tell me more about the X10 stuff? Is that wireless stuff or do I still have to run cable to do it?

A lot of garage door openers have extra buttons for options like lights that can be controlled remotely built in. You can just add the controller to the circuit.

I’m afraid I need to know a little more about Keith’s requirements before I would make any suggestion. There are a number of alternatives available from multiple sources depending on the load to be controlled, budget and personal preferences. As I’m sure you know, all alternatives have pluses and minuses which should also be discussed. Unfortunately, I only have an opportunity to visit this forum once or twice a month. Therefore, in the interest of time, (Keith’s and mine) I offered to communicate directly. If I’m contacted, I’ll be happy to post a synopsis, (with Keith’s permission) of the outcome.

I'm not a moderator here, so mods please forgive me if I am out of line,
but the purpose of this forum is for open discussion and the sharing of ideas for benefit of all members. Since you own a business selling X10 type devices, by simply posting asking the OP to email you, instead of posting suggestions from which everyone can benefit it appears as though you are only trolling for business.
