Remote controlled locks available?
My situation is this:
I'm buying a house with a detached garage. I have never had one before, all the houses I have had previously had attached garages. Of course, like all of you, prior to going to bed at night I do a lap around the house checking to see that all doors are locked. With two kids in the house, there's about a 50/50 chance that I will find one unlocked.
That being said I am trying to find a way to avoid going out every night to see if the kids remembered to lock up the garage. I'll have lots of tools out there as well as other stuff, and I don't want it to be left unlocked. The front overhead doors are fine, it's the two regular walk through doors on the sides I'm concerned about.
Are any of you using, or at least aware, of any locks that I can stand in the kitchen by the window, maybe 30 feet or so from the door, and press a button to lock the door and get some indication that it is locked?
Because of the kids, I don't want anything that locks or unlocks with a push button code. Once their friends see them do it, then the entire neighborhood essentially has the key to my garage.
And....before you all mention it, I know I should teach the kids to lock the doors. I have tried, I give up.
Edit: Upon further thought, does anyone have another solution other than remote control locks that I haven't thought of? I don't want to go outside on cold or rainy nights to check both doors, and I don't want the Mrs. having to do it either.
