Remove Walker Turner chuck

Many bearings with the same OD and same width come in several sizes of bores. For example, 6202 bearings come in 15mm, 16mm, 1/2" and 5/8" bores. The "10" in 6202-10ZZ is really 10/16ths, aka 5/8ths.

I almost always use the "freeze/heat" technique to install bearings.

Okay I got the bearings today and just compared them. The OD and thickness is the same, but the ID of the new one is slightly smaller. It’s .5865 vs. the original is .6200. Do you think it’s worth me hunting down the 6202-10ZZ? Maybe I’ll ask in the Facebook group you mentioned Frank. So close but so far away.

6202-5/8 is quite common. I bought dozens of these for Craftsman machines.

What does your spindle measure?

As it was stated before, "normal" 6202 bearings have a 15mm bore, and yours need the 5/8 bore. So it is different size.

Thank you both, I just measured the spindle and it’s .5965 or 15.15 mm.

Update: the Walker Turner Facebook group pointed me to Jeff at the Walker Turner Serviced Machinery company who has been a huge help. They sell bearings and recommend Loctite 638 to install them, so that’s great news. They said the original bearings are obsolete, but they have had success with the bearings they sell. I’m waiting to get a quote on a belt/pulley guard from them as well. I’ll follow up once I get the bearings installed. Thanks and have a great weekend.
