Removing chuck from Milwaukee fuel drill.

Boss has a Milwaukee 18V fuel drill. The jaws of the chuck are screwed up and it has issues holding small bits. I need to replace it., The videos I've watched say it's a phillips head screw, reverse thread. This one looks like an allen head screw...it sure looks like one anyway .:dunno:

I tried both metric and SAE keys, but none seem to fit right. As a younger lad, I would have stripped and buggered the dam thing up by now. But over the years, I've learned to seek the knowledge of those that are smarter than me...and to try and find the correct answer.

Hoping someone can offer some assistance. Thanks.

Maybe a Torx? Anyways, when you put a bit in and since the jaws aren't holding very good the bit spins in the chuck and will mess up what ever screw is used.

This isn't the first time I've seen a post asking how to remove chuck from Milwaukee drills. Is this their weak point???

Its a tox for sure, had to do it on my fuel drill. Cant remember the size though. Wouldn't worry about stripping it as long as its correct size. Mine came out fairly easy and i used m18 impact to brake the screw loose.

Most chucks use a torx of some sort. Allen can be put in them, but then they all feel loose (metric or SAE), so that'd be my guess.

Took me a minute..but I understand what you are saying. Hope it's not the case.

I remember a post about some folks swapping them out for a different brand I think. Couldn't find it though.

Thanks...I've got most sizes covered....hopefully it's only my bad eyesight that caused the confusion and not already buggered as Larryjones mentioned.

There is always an alternative. Got the drill on a trade with locked up rusted chuck and bit in there. Drilling was not an option so enede up hacking up the chuck with a grinder.

Jaws didnt stand a chance, only thing is when i finally had a chance to access the torx bolts i remembered my own words.....reverse thread, so i put my impact in reverse and ...wait for it...broke the bit :rocker::lol_hitti . Get the joke? It actually was not funny at all. It was a long day.

Didnt have another torx and went back to hacking and took the retaining bolt off with vice grips.
