Removing Concrete Paint

Not the garage, but our sunroom was painted poorly by the previous owner. What is the best way to remove the paint and prep the surface for new paint which hopefully will last many years?

Grind it off.
If you want to do this once...

Apply epoxy with a pigmented urethane topcoat.

If its a oil based paint use paint stripper or a heat gun but if its water based paint you can only use a heat gun.

Like Legacy said, you want to grind it off. The best method is an angle grinder with a cup wheel which has a series of diamond segments bonded to the bottom of the wheel. A shroud attached to the grinder with a vacumn hook-up will give you a relatively clean job. If you're using a standard vacumn, stop frequently and knock the dust off the filter to prevent clogging. Trying to remove paint on concrete by sanding usually gums up even course paper extremely quick. I've found that solvent type stripping usually becomes a huge mess, and then you have solvent filled rags to dispose of. I realize the grinding info I gave might not be economically feasable for a single small job, but it's the best, quickest and cleanest way, when done properly.

Depends on the size you are dealing with

If it is small( under 150 sq ft )
Use the cup wheel on a grinder. About $60-$90 if you already have a grinder

If it is larger, I would rent a concrete grinder.
For about $150 it is way less work, and worth it.
