Removing decal?

Ok don't get on me with this, but to get decal glue off my race cars I use Avon skin-so-soft. I know my hands smell like girly hands. But no chemicals and that's a good thing for your skin... Just don't let your wife know you stole I mean borrowed it..

And it will keep away the mosquitoes.........

I used a norton version of the decal remover wheel and it ruined the finish on my tool box. I took a snap on logo off my KRA and the wheel left black scuff marks. I took it to a body shop who buffed it out to make a look better. Not sure I will use one again!!

Mineral spirits wont harm the finish and will take it off.

Interesting, I have never once had any issues with the 3M version of the wheel and I've removed hundreds of feet of pin stripes, decals, emblems, etc. And I'm VERY particular about the finish. I'll certainly avoid that brand.

Just a couple weeks ago it zipped the US General emblem off a box in less time than it took to chuck the tool up.

The undisputed king of stick removing is Eucalyptus Oil available at the local pharmacy for a couple of dollars.
Doesn't damage paint or plastic, simple to use and leaves your garage smelling fresh!!
Honestly, it is miles better than wd40 and although I've not paid big money for the 3M product I challenge any one who has , to try eucalyptus oil and compare it and tell me which is better. Ill put good money on the oil winning....

Baby wipes, the kind you use on babies butts. We have to put a special sticker on the headlamps that adjusts the dipped beam from pointing down and to the left to just pointing down when we go to France so as to not dazzle oncoming drivers. When I peel them off they always leave glue behind and a couple of baby wipes which we always have in the car gets it off quick and easy.

Good old naptha/lighter fluid. Goof Off may eat into the paint. I won't ever use that s**t again...



With you on this worked in a clean up bay at a dealership when i was a kid this is all we used a little ronson lighter fluid and a bit of hot water does the trick

i use an eraser wheel from astro tools like the one a few posts back, works very well. i've never burned the paint and its fast way to get the adhesive off.

I have a 3M wheel but it's not a solid deal like that Astro-eraser above. It's several rubbery but very flexible circles mounted together like a clutch pack on an arbor. It's about four inches in diameter. I'd give more information but I've had this thing for about fifteen years and don't remember more than that it's made by 3M and I believe I bought it at Eastwood or a local paint supply store.

That sucker will absolutely destroy any kind of sticker or adhesive graphic in short order and won't harm the underlying paint. I took the graphics off of my Dad's boat several years ago and it did a great job. It did leave behind some residue that I had to remove with a light solvent (I think I used WD-40 at the time) but the residue was so broken up that it came right off.

Only problem I had with it is that it so thoroughly gnawed the stickers up that it made a horrible mess on the ground and on my clothes.

The 3M wheel I bought about 8 years ago was a solid piece with a hub in the middle with an arbor adapter/mandrel. My experience was the same, zipped the decals right off, a simple wipe down with a solvent, and it was done.

I have heard so many experiences positive I decided to try it... It was a snappy box, that had the logo on upside down. ( guy was a *****). Anyway, maybe it was powdercoat? My buddy took it to his body shop to buff and not look as bad. I put the emblem back on just so it hid the paint damage... I was not happy, but you can't see it unless it's up close. It is a tool box, I suppose!
