Removing extra garage door track

Hi all,
Tried a search but couldn't find anything.

When my door is fully opened, there's extra track (see photos). I'm assuming I can simply remove the extra track after the support bracket without impacting the garage door function?

Is there any point when the door would have to use that extra? During a repair?

Thanks, looking to maximize storage on a small garage.

I can't imagine what it would be needed for; I'd probably just hacksaw it off. Over the years I've installed & repaired my own garage doors, and had some installed professionally, & haven't seen that much extra track, or the need for it.

Agreed, cut it off just beyond the hanger. Can't hurt a thing - given you picture shows the door in it's' fully open position - meaning bottom edge of the door is even with door top opening.

Probably a 8' door track, don't have a 8' door with a 7' opener on do you?

If you cut it off close to the door when it's fully open I would install a stop of some sort. nothing to keep the door from going up a little bit too high and falling off the track otherwise.

Putting a stop in the end isn't a bad idea, in case you do have it a little past open for changing springs or cables, or an opener has a fault that causes it to try to open too far.
