Hi all -

I'm interested in removing some oil stains from my garage floor (no intent on putting epoxy or anything down...just want to clean up a bit).

Any advice on the best product/method for the job???

I found this "pour-n-restore" stuff which sounds great....but it's probably just hype???

Anyway - I'd appreciate any advice ya'll have.

I have never used it, so I couldn't say. I've found dawn dish soap or tide laundry detergent work well when the area is scrubbed with a stiff push broom or hand brush. Use some elbow grease to scrub it, rinse and repeat. If the floor is really bad rent a floor buffer with the scrubbing brush attachment from Home Depot or Lowes. That will save you some back ache!

I have used Pour-N-Restore on my drive way and it did lighten an area of oil stained concrete. I found that it worked pretty well if used soon after it is purchased and on a warm day. I kept a couple of bottles that I stored in my garage for about a year and they did not work very well when I used them. I guess they were too old past the manufacture date. A few years ago I found a Thompson's Garage Floor Cleaner that worked very well. I have not seen it lately so I don't know if they still make it. I believe Thompson's products are made by Sherwin Williams, so one of their paint stores may be able to help you find it if they do still make it.

Many (oily) stains can be removed with brake fluid or brake cleaner. I don't know how big a spot(s) you have though.

Traditional clay kitty litter works really well -- you have to kind of grind it into the floor and then over time the powder ***** the oil out of the concrete. Sometimes you have to repeat a couple of times but it usually gets all the oil out.

The best product to use is called Super 8. This is a commercial product unfortionatly, but it is easily found online. I powerwash parking garages in Chicago, IL and have no problem getting it off the floor. Looks brand new. I have used it in my garage and spectacular. Something that i have also tried that has worked but takes time (like 8hrs to sit on floor) is called purple power. I think you can get it at any autozone or any stores like that.
