I bought a Quincy 325 pump from an estate. The old gentleman had been rebuilding it before he got to be too sick. It sat outside in the weather for who knows how long.
I took the valves out to have a look and was surprized at how much rust was there was on the inside of the head. While folks were digging around it got knocked over and had all kinds of oil and gunk on it also.
I took the head off and got a bottle of rust remover off the net, but I didnt know how it would work with all the oily stuff all over it. So I bought a gallon of Purple Power and put the head and it's guts inside a blue plastic tub and soaked everything first for two hours.
I was peasently surprized at how clean it was in just two hours. I soaked it for two more hours and checked again. I was sure when I started out that it would have to soak overnight it was that bad. I let it soak again for two more hours making a total of 6 hours.
By this time not only was there NO oil or gunk there was also almost no rust. I rinsed it all off and soaked it in the rust remover for two days and it is clean as a whistle.
Just thought I'd pass that on
