I have some rust pitted sheet metal that I'm using abrasive media to clean. I need to dial in the method I'm using. The air compressor runs 10scfm at 90 psi. I run at 60 psi. I'm using course coal slag and also 70 grit aluminum oxide. I'm finding that I'm not getting all of the rust out from the pits. I rigged the gun inside a shop vac to try and make this method dust less and collect the media. I'm collecting about 95% of the media. Maybe I need to increase the psi. I'm also going to try some different size tips on the gun. The blaster is gravity feed.

Coal slag is large particle. It won't get into small rust pits. Try some finer aluminum oxide. Maybe as the last step.

And if the part is small, soak it in phosphoric acid. Kleen Strip at Home Depot is cheap and works well.
