Removing slide on my 105 Reed

Trying to get the movable jaw assembly separated from immovable jaw. Unscrewed far enough but the slider is very tight and does not want to come off. Should I just spray with penetrating oil or diesel and keep pounding to separate the halves? The threaded portion is out of the guide in the back of the non-movable jaw but I know know how hard I should expect to pound it to get it out. It needs some filing to square off edges and perhaps a couple small bulges that are holding removal back.

Get some calipers and see if the end of the slide is mushroomed out . If it is then a few passes with a file may be all it takes.
If the end is mushed up I wouldn't try and force it. A tiny bit of iron can create a lot of resistance. Filing is the way to go.

I have a 105. Mine just slides out after unscrewing the movable jaw. Mine had a broken lug (the part the screw goes into) at the rear. I called Reed on the phone and the still had the part on the shelf for the 90 year old vise. Friendly woman and fast shipping. Little bit pricey. Vise is good as new.

I would say the slide is a couple mm. too "wide". The edges on top appear like they need a bit of filing. Thanks for the suggestion.
The job appears doable and practical.

I have a Columbian 505 which is pretty much the same as your 105. When I got it over 40 years ago, the original owner had never opened the jaws more than a couple of inches, but he used the slide as an anvil. I had to file a lot to get it working. These old vises are hell for stout, and it's no worse for the wear.
