Does anyone have good suggestion for removing soot from something like the old gasoline blow torches? There's some lovely brass and copper under all that black but I'm not wanting to brush it off.

Thanks
Buddy

I like these for general garage cleaning tasks. They are, of course, bred in the USA:

As you can see, you get a lot of use out of one before they need to be cleaned.

Wash, rinse, repeat, and they're ready to use again. For best results, don't wring dry, just leave them out in the sun on some clover.

I'd stay away from the Chinese-made copies sometimes found at Harbor Freight. They superficially look like USA-made cleaning bunnies, but they can scratch your workpieces.

Sadly, Sears is starting to stock the Chinese-made versions, but NOS is still on the shelves if you take the time to look for it.

So far paint stripper is looking promising. After only 20 minutes it's coming off. I'll give it longer rest and try later... THanks!
The furry critter I applied it with seemed to like the Orange flavor of my environmental stripper.

If you don't like the Sears "old girlfriend" I come across a lot of the Sears motherly type of tools.... Good old U.S.A. types
