Removing Stubborn Brass Handle from Hand Planer

I just got a #5 Stanley Planer and when I was testing it at home I was turning the knob that raises and lowers the blade when it came out. I checked the threads on the knob and on the planer but they don't look stripped.

What's the thread pitch on the knob? Or does anyone have suggestions or advice on putting the knob back?

Here is the knob and thread I am talking about.

Used planes are known for having parts swapped, maybe somebody stole one from another maker's plane.

If I remember right, those are reverse threads. Did you try both ways?

Try some PB blaster and/or heat to remove the knob from the threaded part.

You may have to clean up the threads in the frog, or on the end of the threaded part.

I'm not sure of the thread/pitch, but don't be surprised if it's some oddball ******* pitch.

It's made by Stanley.

I did let it soak in PB Blaster for 2 days already but you're right about the threads. I was wondering because when I measured the diameter of the thread it was close to 7mm and I couldn't find the pitch for it when I used a thread gauge.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a torch.

Don't heat it, you don't want to warp the sole or frog or add/release stresses. Left hand thread, I wrapped a piece of rubber around the adjuster and used channel locks.

It is a custom stanley thread.. Weird company.

I've tried soaking that sucker in pb Blaster for days now and I'm not getting anything! I can't hold down the threads at all. I don't want to damage them either. The knob and thread are off the planer so I won't damage the frog.

Ohhhh, the threaded shaft has come out of the frog? Now you just have a brass knob and stud loose?

Thread it back into the frog, put the frog in a vise or clamp it to a table, then you can put the big nuts to the brass knob.
