I picked up several Cat 50 tool holders at an auction. I don’t have anything that runs Cat 50 holders but want the tooling for my Bridgeport. How do I unmount the boring head and chuck from the holder? Are they simply screwed on? What is the best way to hold the Cat 50 holder?

The drill chuck is probably a Morse taper, the boring head COULD be , most are straight shank. Back out the pull stud to see if that draws the tool in although thats unlikely. As far as holding a Cat 50 you can lay flat bar in the drive lug cutouts and clamp in a standard vise, just don`t crank on it. There are Cat toolholders that are shrink fit but I don't see any signs of heat on your toolholders

for the drill chuck I agree that it is MT. Remove the pull stud, it unscrews, and use a drift to drive the chuck out. If that doesn't work then remove the chuck from the taper at the chuck with wedges.

For the boring bar I would think it would unscrew. If there is a number on the cat 50 you could look it up.
It might be t his one, https://www.lyndexnikken.com/BT50-7-8-20-Boring-Head-Holder-1120p726.htm

If that boring head is a 2" that is likely a 7/8-20 thread if that is it is a 3" it could be a 1 1/2-18 tread they are usually right hand thread place a dowel in the cross hole and give it a sharp whack with a piece of brass os a dead blow hammer to loosen the boring head. Here is a McMaster link to shanks for it after you remove it.

If they're shrink fit holders you're gonna need the blue wrench.

Unless there are setscrews up around the drive collars there isn't any other way of holding them.

I don't see the threaded interface on the boring head either....

On the drill chuck holder, there is a slot on the side that you can drive a wedge into, that will eject the chuck's arbor from the holder. Then you can use Jacob's Chuck wedges to remove the chuck from the arbor.

I also see what appears to be a set screw on each holder.

Thanks, guys. I was able to get the drill chuck out with no trouble. I completely missed the slots for the wedge on the taper of the holder. I’m still working on the boring head. It is a 3” Criterion so hopefully it is threaded on.
