O.K. so you made the attempt to replace your pull rope on your equipment, just to have that rewind spring pop out of its case! Now, we all know how much of a pain that is. Well, there is an easier way! Check out the latest episode of Hector's Shop

They used to make a tool for that, It was affordable and I am not sure what happened to the place that made it but not seen them for sale in years.

We were doing them that way in the shop I worked at in the mid 90s.

It was rare to reinstall a used spring, and the new ones come bound in a metal device you can easily lock needle nose vise grips onto. But it happened. I haven't done a recoil in 15 years, but I still remember hearing the sound of someone screwing up and a spring popping out at them unwinding.
