I have a PTAC unit installed under a couple of windows currently that needs replacing. Does anyone make a mini split head that would fit the standard PTAC wall sleeve opening and operate at floor level rather than near the ceiling?

You will still have to patch the wall and siding. I would fix the hole and install a regular minisplit at a normal height.

Might as well get another ptac if you don't want to do that. What would the advantage of a mini split packaged like a ptac be over a ptac?

I don't know why it wouldn't operate at or below compressor level, but you might want to confirm with manufacturer. You do need some sort of height so that you can do a condensate drain. My guess is that most PTACs are substantially taller than ductless heads, so you'll get a foot off the floor or so..

Ptacs also blow up while minisplit blow down. Blowing cold air down at floor level won't work great

I was just hoping that with mini splits being so popular that there would be a direct replacement head. The PTAC works fine but it is louder than the newer mini splits. I guess I will just replace with a similar product to what I have now. Thanks

The major advantages to a mini are splitting the compressor off and eliminating the huge hole in the wall. There isn't anything special otherwise.

I love the minisplit I have at home and hate the ptac that is in the office at my work for these reasons. Pull the Ptac and properly install a mini. You won't regret it

Most mini-split company DO sell a low wall mount (floor) unit. Of course, you need to fill in where the PTAC was.

I would think the biggest advantage would be how much quieter the mini split would be, especially in something like a bedroom. Plus more efficiency.
