Replacement air compressor belts

Where do you guys get replacement belts for air compressors? I am in the middle of trying to build a nice compressor with an old Champion pump on a budget. The replacement belts I have seen online are really expensive, like $150 or more. That's almost what I paid for the whole compressor. Are there other sources? How are belts sized?

Is there a number on the old belt? If so call around for a cross reference to it.

Go down to your local Auto Parts Store with the old belt. Get a Gates brand belt while you're at it.

No numbers or any writing I can see. I think they are the original belts from 1949.

The belts sold at an auto parts store are fractional horsepower belts, they won't fit your compressor. Your compressor more than likely has A belts (1/2" wide) or B belts(21/32") wide. You should be able to get them from an industrial supply house.

I have ordered bearings, pulleys, sprockets, chain, air fittings, and many more parts from them. I think I am going to look into replacing my compressor belts now that you brought this up, was in storage for about 7 years and probably could use new ones just to be sure.

Also if you have a fleet farm or tractor supply in your area or any other farm supply store they might be able to get you what you need. The key is to find out the length and size. You pay 150 for factory ones because you can just call up and order them and know they are right, if you do a little work and find the size of the belts(lots of places have belt measurers also) you can find a replacement belt for a fraction of the cost.
