So my backup sump pump is about a decade old now, sure, barely gets used but I wanted to replace it with either a higher quality and or higher output one. Problem is I can’t seem to be able to find where to just purchase a 12v sump pump without the rest of the kit. Any ideas? I’ve already replaced and added another battery.

Subscribing. Mine is probably from the Carter administration, if not older... It works though. But i dont want to risk it.

Some here like the water powered ones for simplicity and reliability. Of course it would only work with city water.

Avoid the Basement Watchdog. ****** electronics design.

I have a higher capacity 12VDC sump pump

https://www.zoellerpumps.com/en-us/products/back-up/battery-powered/aquanot-585

Then I upgraded the charger to this

http://www.xantrex.com/documents/Ba...arge/Truecharge10TB(445-0091-01-01_rev-2).pdf

I pair it with a deep cycle battery (size group 27) that I replace every 4-5 years.

The pump is higher capacity than most 12VDC pumps and support 25GPM @ 15' dynamic head. I went to the charger because the old charger kept boiling off all the battery electrolyte and needed constant attention (top up with distilled water). Since I went to the Xantrex I rarely add water and battery gets a sulfation reversal cycle every 21 days.

Is your backup for power failure ? OR just in case the original fails ?
If power failure is not a problem, add a pedestal pump and set the float higher.

Thanks for the info! Can I connect a 12v sump directly to a battery and then have a battery tender connected to the batteries? Do most battery tenders also send constant power?

Yes, you can do that. The battery tender (or any good-quality maintainer) will keep the float charge voltage at a level below which you will boil the electrolyte out of the battery. You can leave it connected and powered indefinitely.

A backup sump pump- water powered.
Replacement? Don't know if those have ever needed replacement.
A friend of mine has the very highly rated Zoeller water activated back up pump that I won't knock and he told me that the diaphragm goes and needs replaced every 5 years.
I'm in the process of probably replacing my Basement Battery back up Watchdog,(10 yrs. incl. Battery), and going to the City Water back up activated pump.
Just still deciding which one to go with.

I'm in the battery backup crowd. In our flat, clay neighborhood waterbackups don't flow enough gpm to keep up in heavy rain. I think Wayne sells the 12v backups separately, but it is essentially a bilge pump. Sumppump direct has some high end 12v systems that look impressive. A periodic battery is just house maintenance, although I should try a tender instead of the charger.

If you just want a 12v pump, how about a marine bilge pump?
That's what I've been using for years.
The Marine Bilge pumps do work great.

I agree with the Maintenance part. It's part of our lives. I'm one of those guy's that's into building a better mouse trap so to speak if it saves me time down the road and less maintenance. Somewhere between upgrading and trying not to over think stuff and even over doing it.

If you have public water supply, check out a product called Basepump. It's a venturi device, pulls ten feet of head at my place with no difficulty, and moves plenty of water. It's one of the best things I've ever done, and has saved me from at least three floods when electric pumps have failed or power has been out.
