I'm currently fixing up a house with all new light switches and receptacles, and was wondering how much an electrician would charge to do all this labor. The house was built in 1952, and the walls were painted just prior to doing the electrical work so I had to take a knife and carefully score the paint around the outlets so it wouldn't pull it off the walls when I removed the part.
I've replaced sixteen switches so far, two of them three-ways (Which needed a bit of figuring out), and at least sixteen receptacles, two of them GFCIs. I think I've spent at least six hours replacing all these parts, because I wanted to do it right and not damage the paint. I also had to cut two switch plates to fit a couple tight spots, and cut out a small portion of wall around a box due to insufficient clearance. If I were to have hired out an electrician, what would be the average cost per unit?
