Ugh - I'm pissed that I didn't notice the screw-pin securing the knurled adjustment barrel on my older 8" Crescent was backing out and **** - it's gone! This was my Dad's and was passed down to me (apparently NOT for "safe keeping"), so while I could just buy a new one and move on, I want to repair this and keep using it as God intended. I've looked online, and cannot find a source (either not listed, or not available) - you folks have any ideas?

That's one of the most popular sizes of one of the most popular wrenches ever produced. They literally made millions of them. So if the donor wrench route is the one you're going to take, you'll have no problem finding one.

But you might consider alternatives. Seems to me it'd be pretty cool to hang that thing over your workbench like a garage talisman. Something to remember your father by and maybe bring good karma your way as you start new projects.

Hardware stores used to have a parts assortment for Crescent wrenches. I have an older buddy that has a mostly full assortment from the 70ies in his shop. I think parts are still available from Crescent.

As Jbullfrog said, hardware stores used to commonly have an assortment of these repair parts. My local hardware store still has them in a branded 'small parts' cabinet specifically for the assortment of crescent repair parts. I'm sure it is NOS that has been there for decades. Buying the parts below may be more than buying a donor . . .

Thank you all for the very helpful suggestions; I will use them to track down the parts, or a donor wrench to cannibalize. :D.

And TailGunner3000 - I don't know why I've not thought of the "garage talisman" thing before - I really like your suggestion. I've just kept using many my Dad's tools (and my grandpa's anvil - which my next project is making proper base for it), especially the ones I remember from a very young age. I believe they channel his ingenuity and skill somewhat to me - I like to think so anyway.

Ive got my dads #4 bench plane, and his chisels up on a high shelf in my tool cabinet. Don’t need them as users, so they are seen when I grab a user. Don’t want to break them.

Here's my small stash of those parts. Might be something in there you could use. PM me.
