I have just come into a free Snap-On SHLF80 but heres the catch. The threads pulled out of the ratchet head so the Snap-On dealer at the shop I just transferred to won't warranty it, also the previous owner tack welded the cover (black piece that says "sealed ratchet head- do not immerse in fluids") is there a way to obtain an entire replacement head for this somehow??? The ratchet is currently working perfectly other than this cosmetic issue but if I break the guts I would like to be able to fix them. Please any info or if you have one of these heads for sale shoot me a price (forgive me for not knowing the correct procedure for this request)

the screws that retain the cover over the ratchet mechanism are what im referring to not the torx securing the flex head

It is why Snap-On now offers the S80A series which address that problem.

Not new. Not news.

If caught early a dealer would have warrantied it. And given you an A replacement. It is why the screws, cover plate and head design was all changed.

Once modded, it's a **** shoot.

Try and find a S936 head or buy new or used S80A.
No "head only" replacement unless done by a driver.
Rebuild kits--available all day long.

Not a lot of options once dumb folks f*&^ up tools.

Tapping the cover plate holes up a metric size and just using new screws and the std. guts is also an option.

Once it got welded, it screwd the pooch for most warranty options. :)

I know all this about mods etc and the "dumb" previous owner was in a hurry and did that, and bought a replacement the next day... when you break a tool in the middle of a job impromptu rigging is necessary at times. He also suggested running bigger screws as well, all I was wondering was if its possible to obtain a complete head or not. I got this ratchet completely for free, I'm not inquiring about comparable products or anything else other than is it possible to obtain a head for it or if someone has one to work something out to obtain it. if not I will just use it til it breaks and get a brand new one myself

Can you grind off enough of the weld to get the cover plate off? I suspect not, unless it's a really small tack weld.
