So I’ve had this Bosch hammer drill for probably 15 years & it’s been great but the original Rohm chuck has finally bit the dust. Since I need to replace the chuck I figured it would be a nice upgrade to swap it with an SDS Plus style. I assumed that would be easy enough by just finding an SDS chuck with the same 1/2-20 female thread mount.....buuut after searching g the internet extensively that doesn’t seem to be a common thing.
Does anybody know if such a thing exists?

The question is why? A hammer drill is different than a rotary hammer drill. But to answer your question portachuck makes a chuck to convert a hammer drill to sds

Mostly for the convenience of a keyless chuck & the better selection of bits. I understand I couldn’t use chisels & accessories designed to be used on the “hammer only” function but other than that how do they differ?

There is a big difference in performance the only thing you will achieve is a quick change chuck but SDS bits are designed for a rotary hammer and you wouldn’t get any added benefit over a regular carbides tipped masonary bit in a hammer drill. This is probably the reason you don’t see a chuck conversion offered by one of the big 4 (Dewalt, makita, Milwaukee, Bosch)

I don't think it would work because on you hammer drill, the chuck does both the turning and the hammering. On an sds, the bit is turned by the chuck but it is floating axially. There is a plunger inside the chuck that hits the back of the bit.

I bought the harbor freight sds hammer drill for at home for $59 on sale, and that thing is the first tool from them I tried, and it’s paid for itself on projects. For what a chuck would cost it is not worth it IMO.
