I was out today and among other things bought a warren bx 84 (might be off a letter or two) 10 pound sledgehammer. If anyone knows more about the company I would be interested.
As one would expect of most used wood handle tools, it was wrapped in tape up near the head because of a crack perpendicular to the grain and had a few nails in it to tighten up the head, though I can't complain for maybe like $1.50 after hearing the price I ended up grabbing a ratty looking old Craftsman T6 maul along with it, though I have no real use for it.
It was serviceable enough to drive stakes, which would've saved my some skin one of my fingers after driving a few 3 days ago with a dinky 3 pound drilling hammer, but I decided to chop the handle and remove the head. I have about 24" of good handle left over, but I'd rather have a full 36", so I am in need of a new handle.
Should I just pick up whatever hickory handle at the blue or orange box stores for $15, or is there any specific brand that makes a higher quality handle or retailer that has a better deal?
