Replacement Vise Handles

Hey GJ'ers,

I am relatively new to the board -- I have several old vises I would like to restore.

At least one of them is going to need a new handle due to massive corrosion. I see that several members recommend Ritzblitz for these, however, I also noticed that he has not been active for a while on this board, nor on on Practical Machinist. Hoping he is still around... if not, I would welcome recommendations, as I am not really set up for metal work.

Are you able to hacksaw, drill, and tap a hole? I know this is metal work, but fairly basic and the tools relatively cheap. Then, round stock can be had from mcmaster carr or or perhaps a local supplier. Ive ordered steel threaded balls from them as well. I was also ordering both from ENCO with super sweet deals, but not sure about pricing since they were bought out by MSC. There are a few tutorials in the vise repair thread for all types of handles.

There are a few other guys on here that hire jobs as well, hopefully someone will chime in for you.

JMS: you might want to try and PM Ritzblitz and if he doesn't respond PM me and i'll text him to see if he still wants to make vise handles.

or like Scooter says making a handle yourself might not be a bad idea. yes maybe not quite as nice as one Ritzblitz makes, but we are talking about handles and have on the Vise Repair 101 thread and here's the link.

Thanks guys for the tips and links. Yes, I might tackle it if I don't hear from Ritzblitz -- I don't have a mill or lathe, but maybe I could try my hand at it with the right starting components.
